“Before the birth of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), this name was totally UNHEARD Worldwide.”
This is not true, that name was common long before him (If he ever existed as a person).
Hmm some of these are myths not facts. The horse statue pose for example is just not true. Especially the bullshit about the lord almighty.
I’m pretty the statement it’s impossible to lick your elbow is bullshit, I know two people with long tongues that can and also they showed the guy with the worlds longest tongue, he licked his elbow and picked his nose with his tongue. Also explain how holding your breath can’t kill you?
Kings on the cards – wrong – http://www.snopes.com/history/world/cardking.asp
Horse statue – wrong – http://www.snopes.com/military/statue.asp
Others are probably wrong, next time you might consider adding links to proof these statements.
What a load of balls.
>People say “Bless you” when you sneeze because when you sneeze, your heart stops for a millisecond.
There are various explanations. The most common is that during the Great European Plague of 1348, sneezing was usually a sign of imminent death, and so loved ones would tell you “bless you” as a final goodbye.
>> The name of all the continents ends with the same letter that they start with.
Only in English, though. For example in Swedish and German Europe is Europa, in Finnish it’s Eurooppa, and so one. So… yeah, this only applies for English.
umm… North America… South America..
two continents that don’t begin and end with the same letter.
and animals have been domesticated recently, think exotic pets..
not to mention eskimo is a racist term.
A couple of these are not facts, just urban myths, like the statues on horseback. Also some people CAN lick their own elbows. Typical run of the mill crap.
At least a few of your “facts” are questionable…
example:
http://www.snopes.com/military/statue.asp
=== popurls.com === popular today…
yeah! this story has entered the popular today section on popurls.com…
Or enlightening… Which it isn’t, just interesting.
This list is complete crap. There are a few of these that are incorrect. You’d think that before you put it out there that maybe you’d look into a few of these ya know…the whole statue thing with the horses is bogus and has been known for some time. Please go to Gettysburg National Park in PA and you’ll find out how incorrect you are. Simply ask a Park Ranger and they’ll tell you as well as show you statues to disprove your article. Also, when was the last time you saw a Hippo or Rhino jump? Yes, when they run it is possible they have all 4 legs off the ground but this certainly isn’t considered jumping is it? Get your FACTS straight!
The one about horses and statues is an urban myth!
North and South America don’t end with the letter they begin with.
Half of these are wrong.
“THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS INVENTED BEFORE THE MATCH”
A Drug-induced lunatic fantasy.
The first patent applied for regarding cigarette lighters, was issued in 1910 to Louis V. Aronson, (Ronson Lighters), but this was a spark-only, fuel-less device, with next to no commercial potential. The first true lighter, that had a self-contained holder for fuel, was patented in 1926.
The first “friction match” on the other hand, was documented as first produced by John Walker, a British chemist, in 1827.
Since the first cigarettes appeared on the scene in Turkey, about 1832 and the first commercially produced matches appeared in 1852, with no mention anywhere of “cigarette lighters” prior to the earliest Ronsons of the 1920′s, you have your history completely discombobulated from the facts.
Hey Stupid…The America’s start with the words North & South.
“The term assassin, which appeared in European languages in a variety of forms (e.g., assassini, assissini, and heyssisini), was evidently based on variants of the Arabic word hashishi (pl. hashishiyya, hashishin).
The Assassins (originally called Hashashim, Hashishin, or Hashashiyyin) were a religious sect of Ismaili Shia Muslims (from the Nizari lineage) originating in Persia, during the eleventh century C.E. This secret society was known to specialize in terrorizing the Crusaders, against whom they fearlessly executed political assassinations.[1] Their militant views were put into practice for various political or religious purposes. However, historian Bernard Lewis argues that their efforts were not primarily directed at Crusaders, but also against Muslim rulers whom they saw as impious usurpers.[2] The modern word “assassin” is derived from this group, which was thought to have been active from 1090 to 1272.
Your information is a FAIL. The roots to the word assassin, pre-date Shakespeare by at least 300 years.
Brainiac, a UK tv show similar to Mythbusters(but a little less science and a lot more explosions) were proven wrong on your elbow licking ‘fact’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mHSF0RKZEs
The statues one is a myth, which makes most of these plausible, not facts.
Many of these have been proven to be false myths. For instance, rhinos, sharks, alligators and hippos also can’t jump. Polar bears have been shown to be ambidextrous, not left-handed. Don’t believe everything you read peeps.
lol, I can lick my elbow, but I dislocate my shoulder to do it. So it’s not entirely impossible.
Was this post just coppied from a chain e-mail that seems to do the rounds!?
“Bless You” has been used for years and has huge religious connotations. It was often thought that when you sneezed the devil (or any bad spirits) would jump out your body and if you blessed someone it would stop them getting back in.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bless_you
The whole horse legs thing is an urban myth too, try it with any statues in your home town. Look up how they dies and see if it matches
http://www.snopes.com/military/statue.asp
There are no citations for any of these “facts” and a good portion of them have already been proven to be wrong. Horrible list.
“People say “Bless you” when you sneeze because when you sneeze, your heart stops for a millisecond.”
Incorrect:
In ancient times, it was actually believed that when you sneezed it was an opportunity for you to be taken over by evil spirits. Hence, “Bless You.”
Your heart stops when you sneeze – What a foolish old-wive’s tale!!
It’s NOT true that your heart stops when you sneeze. While your chest contracts because of a sneeze and your blood flow is momentarily constricted as well, the rhythm of your heart may change, but it DEFINITELY doesn’t stop.
I’m afraid some of these facts are just not true, or you have worded them wrongly.
This source debunks the whole horse statue thing.
http://www.snopes.com/military/statue.asp
Many others have been covered on QI
The facts about the statues of riders and horses are wrong. Watch QI.
There are individuals who can lick their elbows, the average human being cannot but about 5% of the population are perfectly capable.
half of these are urban legends you can look up on snopes.
Guys, most of these are completely inaccurate: turtles can’t jump, statue-horse’s legs are an urban legend, and North America starts with an N and ends with an A. Do some research.
Just a thought on this one ‘The name of all the continents ends with the same letter that they start with.’ That should say in English, because it’s not true in other languages and really North and South is a part of the continents name so not really even true in English. Although I was taught that Australia is the name of the content it seems that the content name is actually Oceania and that Australia is just a county on the continent which completely ruins this fact.
Wow very enlightening article indeed. Well done.

The belief that all polar bears are left handed is another likely old-wive’s tale. According to Wikipedia, “Despite a recurring Internet meme that all polar bears are left-handed,[38][39] there is NO scientific evidence to support this claim.”
from http://health.howstuffworks.com/sneezing.htm
“For the most part, the various sneeze responses originated from ancient superstitions. Some people believed that a sneeze causes the soul to escape the body through the nose. Saying “bless you” would stop the devil from claiming the person’s freed soul. Others believed the opposite: that evil spirits use the sneeze as an opportunity to enter a person’s body. There was also the misconception that the heart momentarily stops during a sneeze (it doesn’t), and that saying “bless you” was a way of welcoming the person back to life.”
Pity it isn’t all true.
# If a statue of a person in the park on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle.
# If the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle.
# If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.
All false, urban legend (At least in England where it originates I believe).
“Assassin” comes from an arabic word “hashisshin” or something along those lines because they were always on drugs when they operated, bugger all to do with Shakespeare.
This is wrong!!!
Pigs can look up in the sky…and they do when they roll on their backs in mud. Happens every day.
Many animals can’t jump: Sloths. snails, Hippos. Alligators. Snakes.
Lots of new animals have been domesticated in the last 4000 years. I domesticated a brand new baby squirrel last year. Ligers have been domesticated and that species didn’t exist until 1799.
..and this one: “Shakespeare invented the word ‘assassination’ and ‘bump’.” Since there is still no agreement about Shakespeare’s actual freaking IDENTITY, and his writings have been ascribed to at least 3 different people, nobody can credit this anoni-multi-person with “inventing” any words! Also? Simple one syllable sounds like the word “bump”? Babies say words like that all the time, technically making some baby in history the “inventor” of that word.
Basically, most of this list is complete bollox. (That means “crap”). Anyone who accepts lists like this at face value deserves the life of a moron that lies ahead of him. It is now easier than ever to check facts….and people don’t do it. They just accept.
Like the guy who spewed this list out to us.
Morons of a feather will flock together. And then fail.
Cheers.
Pointless. Most of these are completely untrue.
Contrary to popular belief, you actually CAN lick your elbow.
I have, personally, seen my brother do so when he was 7.
To back my claim:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpumRUlpdOk
People say Bless you in reference to the Great Plague.
It IS possible to lick your own elbow : http://neatorama.cachefly.net/images/2008-03/lick-elbow.jpg
These are the two I can disprove off of the top of my head.
Most of these are urban myths and common misconceptions.
Some of these “facts” are only true for the english language.
except North America and South America. unless you think they are called America together. no one really does that
This list is full of it. Half the “facts” here are old wives’ tales and the rest can easily be discounted with a little bit of Googling. The laser printer was invented by a woman? Not even close! http://www.crn.com/it-channel/18838549
